The “world’s largest garbage collection” returns from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15.
The California Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) was first organized in 1985 by the California Coastal Commission. In 1993 the event was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records with 50,405 volunteers. The Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) has been organizing Coastal Cleanup Day in this county since 2005
In last year’s event, 1,567 volunteers collected 30,807 pounds of debris county-wide from creeks and beaches.
This year’s event will included educating beach goers about the Japanese tsunami cleanup.
