Singer-songwriter Michael On Fire and his band played at the Painted Sky Recording Studio in Cambria twice in 2011, both times winning enthusiastic receptions.

He’ll play at Painted Sky again Friday, July 13, but this time in a solo acoustic format and at the new studio site in the Old Creamery Building in Harmony.

His latest ED (extended play) record, “Cadillac Ranch,” will be released the same day as the Painted Sky show.

The record offers poetic insight and social commentary on subjects ranging from oil and banks to drugs and homelessness, technology, war, food preservatives, bee populations, self-help gurus and more.

Michael on Fire wrote and arranged all the songs; plays all the instruments (real instruments in real time –complete performances, no “punching in”), including guitar, bass, drums, piano, organ, mandolin, harmonica and castinets; he sings every vocal part; and produced, engineered and mixed the recordings.

“I’ve been fortunate to play and record and tour with great, great musicians, all over the world,” said Michael on Fire, “and that is a supremely joyful act –to make music with other people. At the same time, I am an artist, so sometimes it’s necessary for me to create art from a place that bypasses discussion and thought and collaboration, and to use my skills and my natural talents to convey a feel and a sound and a work of art that is uniquely ‘me.’ ”

L.A. Times music reviewer Bill Locey wrote of him, “Michael on Fire is so good you’ll be searching for new adjectives to describe it. He’ll make you laugh, cry, see God and tap your feet—all at once.” For more, go to www.michaelonfire.com.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets, $15, are available at the Cambria Business Center, 1241 Knollwood Drive, Cambria, or call 927- 8330.
