Thursday, July 12

Regional Water Quality Control Board. 8:30 a.m. Watsonville City Councl Chambers, 275 Main St., 4th Floor, Watsonville. 549-3147. Agenda includes: Recommendation to close underground hydrocarbon-leak clean-up case at 2210-2222 Main St., Cambria, current site of the French Corner Bakery and former site of a gasoline station. Total petroleum hydrocarbons reported as gasoline and benzene remain at concentrations higher than cleanup goals, but according to staff report based on site characterization, the buried tanks “do not pose a threat to water quality.”

Friday, July 13

State Coastal Commission. 9 a.m. Chula Vista City Council Chambers, 276 Fourth Street, Chula Vista, (831) 427-4863. Agenda includes: Authorization for two rip-rap revetment structures and two gabion crib wall structures and related development along Highway 1 at Shale Point and Alder Creek in Big Sur coast area of Monterey County. Some of the work has already been done under emergency permits after landslides.

Thursday, July 19 Cambria Community Services District. 1 p.m. Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St. 927-6223. Agenda includes: Special workshop for district and Army Corps of Engineers staff to update public on various concepts to provide more water. Among the options are: seawater desalination, local and imported surface water, groundwater, hard-rock drilling and seasonal reservoir storage; also expanded water conservation and recycling programs. The meeting probably will be videotaped; cablecasts are likely to follow the usual schedule (the following Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m., Monday at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 9 a.m.).
