Brian Blakely of Cambria passed away due to complications from cancer treatment side effects Friday, July 30, 2010, with his wife, Lisa, and son, Andrew, at his bedside.
He fought his illness with courage and dignity and always maintained a positive outlook in spite of the nature of his disease.
Brian was born in September 1950 in Glasgow, Scotland, to James and Olwen Blakely. He emigrated with his family to Toronto, Canada, in 1952.
In 1954, they moved to New Jersey, where he was raised and graduated from Glen Ridge High School in 1968. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 from the University of South Carolina.
Brian was employed by Saudi Aramco and lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for 23 years. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music and reading, and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Angels.
His entire family, as well as many long time friends, will miss him dearly.
Brian is survived by his parents, Jim and Olwen Blakely; loving wife, Lisa; sons Jayme (Kristen), Chris (Janna) and Andrew; daughter, Courtney; grandchildren Hayden, Emma, Hannah and Abigail; sister, Carol Talley; and dog, Layla.
No memorial service is planned. However, since Brian was a very active member of The Friends of the Cambria Library, any donations in his memory would be appreciated.
