Friends of Hearst Castle’s held its second ArtReach program, at the Castle’s Visitor Center April 21. ArtReach unites middle school youngsters with accomplished artists for one-on-one mentoring. All took a Castle tour, then each student and mentor paired off to create in mixed media. Robertson was one of 11 artists to volunteer for the day’s teaching, and Dianey, a YMCA Enrichment Program participant, was one of 14 youngsters who participated. The artwork produced by the students will be on display at the famed San Simeon hilltop estate during Friends’ ‘Twilight on the Terrace’ exhibition-sale and cocktail party on June 5. The Friends group and the YMCA of San Luis Obispo County, North County Region, collaborate on ArtReach.
