Plein air works aid open space preserve

A rt by Cambria artist Clarence Weiss is featured in a “Passion for Plein Air Painting” show at The Hamlet at Moonstone Gardens. A portion of sale proceeds benefits Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.

Weiss paints in the style of the French Impressionists, outdoors, direct from life. “My passion for Plein Air painting began in Paris,” Weiss said. “It took years to find a similar artistic community with its own brand of spectacular ‘canvasses’ waiting to be painted.” He found it in Cambria.

In Paris, Clarence Weiss studied art at the Academie Julien. In Los Angeles, he worked as a freelance graphic designer. Weiss studied at the Chouinard School of Art and the Art Center School of Design.

The show opened Jan. 7 and continues through March. 3. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at 7432 Exotic Garden Drive. Light fare will be served and there will be a no-host bar. For details, call 927-2856.
