Students from Danielle Narzihi’s sixth-grade ecology class at Santa Lucia Middle School joined Greenspace for a day of fun and learning at Paul McKinney’s Community Supported Agriculture Farm on Santa Rosa Creek Road this past week.
The students engaged in soil nutrient testing, plant propagation and transplanting seedlings. Farm manager Cindalee Bidwell demonstrated harvesting and packing vegetables for delivery to CSA shareholders. Boxes contain a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs each week.
The field trip, organized by Greenspace — The Cambria Land Trust with a grant from the Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust, was the first of four seasonal lessons for middle schoolers about the agricultural, creek, forest and beach habitats in our watershed.
