Sheriff’s deputies sweeping the area for more illegal campsites already have posted or presented 72-hour eviction notices at three additional sites, bringing the total to six since a June 16 fire near one of them.
Cmdr. James Taylor said in a phone interview July 7 that earlier in the week, two deputies “walked the creek from the old grammar school to Shamel Park. They found three sites that were kind of remote and hard to see.”
They took GPS coordinates so they’d be able to return to the sites, and “talked to two subjects occupying the camps. They gave them notices and posted notices at the others.”
He said he hopes to send another team out later in the week, and also noted that on July 2, a repeat visit to the large “treehouse” encampment resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old male transient who was in possession of a switchblade knife.
