The Avila Beach Community Foundation recently awarded $4,000 to the Avila Beach Junior Lifeguard Program. The matching grant was used to help cover the costs of new paddleboards and charter bus transportation to competitions.
“The program educates over 200 participants ages 10 to 17 each year in ocean safety, stewardship and sportsmanship,” said Rick Cohen, executive director of the foundation. “Our mission is to financially support programs and projects that help enhance the quality of life in Avila Beach for all ages and this grant is a great example.”
The foundation said grants, totaling $52,950, were awarded to 13 organizations in the 2016 calendar year.
