San Luis Obispo
Local philanthropist Jim Sargen recently pledged $100,000 to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County for its Nourish Our Future campaign. The donation will help fund the Food Bank’s new central facility on Kendall Road in San Luis Obispo.
“I support the Food Bank because their mission of providing families with fresh, healthy food will be enhanced by its new facility’s ability to ensure that food is not allowed to spoil, and further serve those in need,” said Sargen.
Sargen also encourages the community to help by matching his pledge with donations of all sizes.

The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden has received a $2,500 grant from PG&E to support its Fire Safe Garden.
The garden sits on a one-acre hillside that was planted using Cal Fire landscaping principles for homeowners to model in their yards. It is the largest garden of its kind in California, according to Debbie Hoover, operations director of the SLO Botanical Garden.
The grant will be used to install rope guides around the garden.
“We have all seen the devastating effects of wildfires and want to share what homeowners can do to keep themselves and their property safe,” Hoover said.
