Good News for Victoria Garcia and SLO County students

Nipomo

The California Rare Fruit Growers Inc. recently awarded a $500 scholarship to Nipomo High School graduate Victoria Garcia, who was in the agriculture program at the high school.

Garcia has been accepted to Cal Poly to study agricultural science with a career goal of becoming a high school agriculture teacher.

SLO County

The Central Coast Greenhouse Growers Association has awarded 20 scholarships to college and high school students, 10 of whom attend San Luis Obispo County schools.

CCGGA member nurseries throughout Nipomo and Arroyo Grande held an open house in April to raise money for the scholarships.

Recipients of the 2016 scholarships attending SLO County high schools or colleges are Cal Poly students Andrew McHaney, Alexandra Barrera, Haleigh Jones and Riley Nilsen; SLO High School students Jacob DeVor, AnnaSara Bridgeford and Alina Dzukola; Nipomo High School student Austin Conner Vernon; Paso Robles High School student Mary Hambly; and Cuesta College student Levi Luis.
