Dozens of volunteers turned out with hand tools to clean up dead brush along the popular city-owned recreation trail connecting Islay Park to lower Spanish Oaks Drive.
Volunteer coordinator Mary Lou Johnson was awarded a matching cleanup grant from the city’s Human Relations Commission and along with Islay Hill and Arbors neighborhood volunteers worked to remove debris, old irrigation lines, dead brush and trees.
Ryan Jones of Earthscapes operated a commercial chipper for volunteers to load and spread the chips along the trail.

Partnership for the Children of San Luis Obispo County has received an $8,500 grant from Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County.
The grant will be used to support dental services at Tolosa Children’s Dental Center, which provides pediatric dental care to children who are on Denti-Cal, underinsured or without dental insurance.
The grant allows TCDD to offer the highest standards of treatment available to better meet the needs of its young patients and ultimately keep them healthier.
