Atascadero

Atascadero Elks Lodge member Lance Erickson has been installed as the new state president by the California-Hawaii Elks Association.

He was honored at the association’s recent convention in Anaheim.

The association represents 174 lodges in 19 districts throughout California, Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines.

Erickson is a Vietnam veteran and was a CHP officer for 32 years — including 10 years in San Luis Obispo, where he retired as a sergeant.

He has served the Elks as exalted ruler, secretary, trustee, state vice president and district deputy exalted ruler.

He is the first state president to be elected to this position from the Atascadero Lodge since its inception in 1987, and is the second president to represent his district in 35 years, according to an email from the lodge.

San Luis Obispo

Following the loss of Greg Morris, a community leader whose generosity touched the lives of many, his children worked with Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School in San Luis Obispo to honor his memory with the Greg Morris Memorial Scholarship Award.

Greg Morris was a generous and creative Mission advocate. Alongside other strategic partners, Greg’s sincere commitment to Catholic secondary education in San Luis Obispo is a beautiful legacy that continues to endure,” said president of the high school James Childs.

Alyssa Caldera and Kush Yadav, of the upcoming graduating class of 2017, are the first Mission Prep students to receive the award.
