Morro Bay

Laura Moreno, a 2004 graduate of Morro Bay High School, has been selected as one of 30 individuals honored by the University of California for their innovative work helping to solve the global food crisis through the inaugural Global Food Initiative 30 Under 30 Awards, launched in 2014 by UC President Janet Napolitano.

The UC competition was open to young leaders younger than 30 who have contributed to the development of best practices and research in agriculture and food-related fields.

Moreno, 29, is a doctoral student in the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley. She is also project manager for a food waste measurement program for the Natural Resources Defense Council in Nashville, Tennessee.

Paso Robles

Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County in support of the foundation’s music classes.

The art foundation’s music program serves hundreds of students each quarter with free music classes such as piano, guitar, drums, voice and band. The grant will help offset the cost of instruction, supplies and expanded piano classes that will include new keyboards.
