Good News about the Masons, The Mortgage House and Food Bank

San Luis Obispo

Ten students from local high schools were recently honored for exemplary achievement and community service by King David’s Masonic Lodge in San Luis Obispo.

A $1,600 scholarship was presented to each student for use at the college or university of their choice.

The recipients are:

Carter Pope, Fallon Molnar, Miriam Hernandez and Gerardo Bory from Morro Bay High School; Alexia Maganda, Elizabeth Reynaga and Dominic Garcia from Pacific Beach High School; and Samantha Good, Jennifer Grady and Amber Bjerre from San Luis Obispo High School.

They were honored at a gala dinner, with their families, friends and school staff attending.

With an initial endowment last year of $20,000 managed by The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County, local lender The Mortgage House has chosen its first award of $1,000.

The funds are designated for 40 Prado, the homeless shelter that will replace the aging Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter and the Prado Day Center.

The lender will award gifts from the original endowment to help organizations that benefit affordable housing or provide educational support for people in need.

SLO County

The Food Bank Coalition of SLO County has received several donations to feed the hungry and to support its capital campaign to develop a new centrally located facility in San Luis Obispo.

Renewable energy company, BHE Renewals, donated $5,000 to the Food Bank’s Nourish Our Future campaign.

Neil Dilworth raised $12,300 worth of food through the Will Swim for Food fundraiser.

Additionally, Rabobank recently presented $10,000 to the Food Bank’s GleanSLO program for its title sponsorship of the Wine, Waves and Beyond event.
