Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers receive $5,000 grant for upgrades, restoration

Avila Beach Community Foundation recently granted $5,000 to the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers at a dedication ceremony.

The matching grant was part of three projects funded by the foundation over the past two years for upgrades and restoration.

“The Point San Luis Lighthouse is a treasured historical landmark that provides year-round tours, events and educational opportunities for both residents and visitors of Avila Beach,” said Rick Cohen, foundation executive director. We are “proud to support the Lighthouse Keepers’ efforts to continue to preserve and operate Point San Luis.”

Arroyo Grande

As part of its community outreach program, St. Barnabas Thrift Shop in Arroyo Grande has donated $1,107 to Hospice of San Luis Obispo County.

The thrift store gives a percentage of its income to a nonprofit organization every month.

San Luis Obispo marketing agency, Verdin, took home three awards at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Image Awards ceremony. The agency received an award in the Campaign of the Year category and two awards in the Special Event category.

Verdin was recognized with a Special Event Award of Excellence for the Dignity Health French Hospital Medical Center Foundation Gala Materials; Campaign of the Year Awards of Merit for “The Whole Point” campaign for Ventura County Coast; and Special Event Award of Merit for the 24-Hour Give event.
