The 805 is getting a new area code, and the state wants your opinion on it

AP

The California Public Utilities Commission is beginning the process of introducing a new area code to the region now served by 805 and will hold a public meeting on Tuesday in San Luis Obispo.

The meeting is set for 11 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at 990 Palm St. to address any community questions or concerns.

The CPUC will run out of available numbers in the 805 area code by the end of 2018. To avoid service disruption, the new area code will be added by June 2018, six months before the depletion of prefixes. Customers adding new phone numbers may be assigned a new area code by then.

For those unable to attend the meeting, the CPUC welcomes written comments. They may be sent to the CPUC Public Advisor’s Office at 320 W. Fourth St., Suite 500, Los Angeles, CA 90013 or via email to public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov.
