State Parks officials have identified the 50-year-old man who drowned Friday in ocean waters south of the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area.

Konstantin Beziaev of Culver City was found floating face down in the water about 5 p.m. Friday, Oceano Dunes chief ranger Brent Marshall said Monday.

Beziaev’s death remains under investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, the San Luis Obispo County Coroner’s Office said.

Marshall said Beziaev was in the water for 30 to 45 minutes before park lifeguards found his body about 200 yards from shore. He was taken via helicopter to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, where he was pronounced dead, Marshall said.

Beziaev and his wife were walking south of the Oceano Dunes park near the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes National Wildlife Refuge when Beziaev decided to go for a swim, Marshall said Friday. Authorities initially had a difficult time identifying Beziaev because his wife does not speak English.

According to his LinkedIn page, Beziaev was employed as a senior software engineer at NantMobile, where he had worked since July 2010.
