A Friday afternoon fire in Paso Robles caused $8,000 in damage to a house on the city’s southwest side.
Fire crews responded about 3:40 p.m. to a residential structure fire on the 400 block of Morgan Lane, according to a news release from Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services. Firefighters found smoke coming from an attached garage that had been converted into a separate living space.
When crews arrived, a neighbor was using a garden hose to extinguish the flames. The resident had evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.
Atascadero and Cal Fire crews helped to extinguish the blaze. The resident sustained a minor injury but was treated at the scene and released.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. No smoke detectors were found in the room damaged by the fire.
