Fire destroys $500,000 in equipment at SLO Cal Fire training facility

A fire early Tuesday at a San Luis Obispo Cal Fire training facility destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

The blaze was reported at 3:13 a.m. in the Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County Fire Department Tactical Drill Grounds Training Facility near Camp San Luis Obispo and Cuesta College, according to a Cal Fire news release. Crews found a 4,000-square-foot storage building engulfed in flames.

Twenty-five firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before extinguishing the flames. The building, one vehicle and a large amount of training equipment were destroyed — an estimated $500,000 loss.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
