Cal Fire and the CHP rescued a person who yelled out for help after becoming stuck on a cliff side at Pirate’s Cove in Avila Beach on Saturday afternoon, according to Cal Fire.
A beachgoer flagged down a CHP officer after hearing the person yell from one of the bushes dotting the cliff face, Cal Fire Capt. Nick Stitzel said.
The CHP notified Cal Fire at 4:38 p.m. that a person might have fallen over the cliff, Stitzel said.
With assistance from a CHP helicopter, firefighters were able to descend about 40 feet to the person and hoist them to a safe spot. From there, the person was taken to a waiting San Luis Ambulance vehicle, Stitzel said.
