Multiple fire agencies battled a fire of recyclables Friday night at a San Luis Obispo landfill.

Cal Fire responded about 7:30 p.m. to a fire at the Cold Canyon Landfill materials recycling facility, Cal Fire spokeswoman Stacey Salazar said. Crews saw smoke coming from the building and found that bundles of recyclables, specifically cardboard, were on fire, Salazar said.

Several agencies sent crews to assist, including the San Luis Obispo Fire Department, Five Cities Fire Authority, the Santa Maria Fire Department and the Santa Margarita Fire Department.

Crews used foam and other materials to extinguish the flames, which were limited to the recyclable bundles, Salazar said.

The fire remains under investigation.
