Arroyo Grande’s popular swinging bridge has been closed indefinitely for repairs.
It was closed on Tuesday until “necessary repairs are completed,” according to a city news release. The release did not say what repairs will be done, only that the need for the work was revealed during a recent inspection by city staff. City public works director Geoff English did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
The 171-foot-long bridge, located in Olohan Alley in the Village of Arroyo Grande, was built in 1875 to span the Arroyo Grande Creek. It is now owned and maintained by the city of Arroyo Grande.
The bridge will remain closed until special equipment to access locations under the bridge in the creek channel can be acquired, and the repairs made, according to the news release.
