The Port San Luis Harbor District has hired Randall “Casey” Nielsen as its chief harbor patrol officer.
Nielsen began work at the harbor district Oct. 5. He was selected after a highly competitive recruitment, said Steve McGrath, harbor manager.
Nielsen previously worked for the harbor district from 2002 to 2008 as its operations manager. Most recently, he worked for the Monterey County Parks Department as its deputy chief park ranger. That department served the Nacimiento Lake and Laguna Seca recreation areas.
He will be responsible for marine patrol and rescue within the harbor.

Nielsen said he is enthusiastic about serving in his new position.
“One of the best memories I have with my dad was night fishing off the Harford Pier when I was young,” he said.
