The San Miguel Library Family Show at 3 p.m. Thursday will feature information about raptors, also known as birds of prey. Those who attend will meet a live, rescued hawk. For information, call 467-3224.

School board

The San Miguel Joint Union School Board meets tonight in the Lillian Larsen School library. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. For information, go to www.sanmiguelschools.org or call 467-3216.

Good work, firefighters

Thanks to the rapid response by the San Miguel and Camp Roberts fire departments, the blaze just south of the Caledonia Adobe between the railroad and the freeway was quickly put out on Monday afternoon.

Fourth of July

With Fourth of July only one week from Saturday, there are two places in San Miguel to purchase “safe and sane” fireworks. Downtown on Mission Street, San Miguel firefighters have a booth; and up on K Street near the overpass, San Miguel Lions have a booth. These are the only fireworks permitted in San Miguel. Fines can be very high for those who don’t follow careful safety precautions when using them or who use illegal fireworks.

Local favorite

One of the most popular places in town to eat, the Country Diner on Mission Street, was named Best of the Best for Best Breakfast in the San Miguel area in a survey of local businesses conducted by Permanent Survey Group. Owner Linda Mora is proudly displaying her framed certificate.
