Cal Fire crews from San Luis Obispo County headed to the Kern County line Monday afternoon to join emergency personnel from Monterey and Kern counties battle a large grassfire near Highway 41.
The fire was reported near the Cottonwood Pass area at about 3:45 p.m. and had burned about 60 acres of grassland about an hour later.
A Cal Fire spokesman said that Cal Fire air units are dumping retardant and creating a barrier between the fire and the highway but an additional 50 acres were under threat from the fire.
Five Cal Fire engines, one water tanker and a bulldozer as well as four aircrafts were deployed from San Luis Obispo County to the scene.
