The Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services has selected a lifelong North County resident as its new fire battalion chief.
Keith Aggson, who has long served on the Atascadero Fire Department and who spent the last nine months as the interim chief of the Templeton Fire Department, will take over as one of the department’s two battalion chiefs on May 18, the city announced Tuesday.
Aggson began his career as a seasonal firefighter in Atascadero in 1988 before being hired full time with the Atascadero Fire Department in 1990 and receiving his paramedic license in 1991.
That year, he was promoted to captain with the department.
He will succeed former Paso Robles Battalion Chief Kevin Taylor, who left the department in February for a promotional opportunity with the Montecito Fire Department.
Aggson quickly stood out among eight applicants for the position, the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services said in a news release.
Though the department is authorized for two battalion chiefs, it has operated with just one since 2007 because of economic conditions.
