Letter carriers to hold annual food drive for local charities

For the 23rd year, the National Association of Letter Carriers is holding its annual food drive and asks the public to leave a bag of nonperishable food by their mailbox on the second Saturday in May.

The drive on Saturday, May 9, is nationwide, but the food will be distributed to local charities, according to a U.S. Postal Service news release. Last year, letter carriers collected 72.5 million pounds of food during the drive, feeding about 30 million people, the release said.
