Surf photographer Chris Burkard, an Arroyo Grande native, will offer a presentation at the popular TED talks this week.

Burkard, whose photos capture surfers riding waves worldwide, will speak Thursday at TED2015 in Vancouver, Canada. His speech is titled “Passion and Consequence.”

TED (technology, entertainment, design) was founded in 1984 but became an annual event in 1990. Past speakers have included Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Bono and several Nobel Prize winners.

Other speakers at this year’s TED event include Bill Gates and Monica Lewinsky.

In addition to his work with Surfer magazine and other surf publications, Burkard has produced three books, “The California Surf Project,” “Distant Shores: Surfing the Ends of the Earth,” and “The Plight of the Torpedo People.”
