The Los Osos bear statue is whole again.

The restoration of the iconic bear on South Bay Boulevard has been completed by the father-and-son team of Dave and Kyle Doust.

A chunk of the bear’s nose was knocked off in an act of vandalism nearly two weeks ago. The Dousts finished the work on Sunday.

“Fortunately, we had good weather,” Dave Doust said. “The weather was dry enough to apply multiple coats of paint and finish this weekend.”

Gary Dove, the Los Osos Rotary Club’s president-elect, is in the process of repairing the bear’s solar panel and lighting system, which were also damaged.

Celebrate Los Osos and Rotary are working to formulate a method to prevent future vandalism of the bear, said Mimi Kalland, the co-coordinator of Celebrate Los Osos.
