UPDATE 5:25 a.m. Monday: A 65-year-old man died after being hit by a car on Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos on Sunday evening.

The man, whose name has not been released, was trying to cross the road near Palomino Drive at 6:05 p.m., according to the CHP. As he crossed, he was hit by a 2010 Dodge Challenger driven by 26-year-old Los Osos resident Ricardo Serafin.

Because of where the man was crossing, the darkness and other traffic, Serafin was not able to avoid the pedestrian, according to the CHP. The front right side of the car hit the man, and he was thrown the shoulder of the westbound lanes. Medics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision. Neither Serafin nor his passenger were injured.
