Law enforcement officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Juvenile Hall expansion project at 2 p.m. Wednesday near the County Jail on Highway 1 and Kansas Avenue in San Luis Obispo.
The project will add 20 single occupancy sleeping rooms, three classrooms, a mental health treatment office, two counseling rooms, a multipurpose gym, staff bathrooms, locker rooms, a conference room and staff offices to the existing San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Hall.
The 23,416-square-foot expansion will cost about $20 million, $13 million of which is being paid by the state.
Diani Building Corp. of Santa Maria was awarded the $15 million base bid from the county in August for contracting services. San Luis Obispo architecture firm Ravatt, Albrecht & Associates, Inc. designed the new facility.
Construction is expected to be finished in fall of 2016.
