A motorcyclist killed in a solo crash near Santa Margarita on Wednesday morning has been identified as 56-year-old Thomas Edwin Craig III, according to the CHP.
At about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, CHP officers responded to a report of an injury crash on Huer Huero Road about 3 miles south of Highway 58 and found that Craig had suffered fatal head injuries after being ejected from his bike.
After interviewing witnesses, officers determined Craig was traveling north at about 50 mph when he tried to pass a vehicle and lost control of his motorcycle.
He was not wearing a helmet, according to the CHP.
A spokesperson for the CHP said Friday that neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash, but the investigation remains ongoing pending toxicology results from the Coroner's Office.
