PAHRUMP, Nev. — Authorities say they’re investigating the death of a 27-year-old Los Osos woman who was found dead in the Nevada desert as a homicide.

Nye County Detective Joe McGill said two ATV riders found the body of Margay Edwards on Sept. 25 near a dirt track outside of Pahrump. Clark County coroner’s officials haven’t released a cause of death.

McGill didn’t say whether investigators have suspects or people of interest in the case.

Authorities are still looking for Edwards’ cellphone and blue 2014 Hyundai Accent.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo told KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara that Edwards had been staying in a hotel in Las Vegas, and it was unclear whether she was alone or with friends. He said her family most recently contacted her in the second week of September.

Edwards is the daughter of Los Osos residents Insong and Jeff Edwards, who are divorced.

She was a 2005 graduate of Morro Bay High who played on the school’s varsity basketball and softball teams.

After attending Cuesta College, she moved to San Diego a couple of years ago to study business at San Diego State.

Jeff Edwards last talked to his daughter in early September and did not know why she might have been in Nevada.
