130 volunteer for Templeton creek cleanup

More than 465 pounds of trash were hauled away from Templeton’s waterways during the community’s annual creek cleanup Saturday.

Nearly 130 volunteers fanned out to collect everything from plastic chairs to cigarette butts and Styrofoam cups that littered the area’s creeks and storm drains, according to a news release from the community services district.

The event, which Templeton has participated in for 14 years, is held annually in conjunction with similar cleanups throughout the Central Coast as part of San Luis Obispo County Creek Day.

The goal is to rally communities to pick up trash and cut down on water pollution and damage to fish habitats.
