The city of San Luis Obispo and the American Legion are hosting a remembrance ceremony in observance of the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks today at Laguna Lake Golf Course.
A steel I-beam from the World Trade Center will be on display. The city plans to incorporate the beam into a public art project at the Fire Station on Santa Barbara Avenue to memorialize the first responders killed.
A model of the World Trade Center Memorial project by Kathleen Caricof, which will be built in 2015, will also be on display.
The memorial will be held today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Laguna Lake Golf Course, 11175 Los Osos Valley Road. The Police Department will later escort the beam to the Thursday night Farmers Market, where it will be displayed on Chorro Street.
