Paso Robles city leaders have agreed to do a statewide search for a new public works director.
The City Council recently approved to spend $19,400 from general fund reserves to contract with Avery & Associates in Los Gatos to find a successor to Doug Monn, who plans to retire from the post in January 2015.
Monn has worked for the city for 30 years. Since 2005, he's led the public works department as its director, overseeing a staff of 56 employees and a $32 million annual budget.
Avery & Associates, one of two firms that submitted bids for the job, is the same firm the city used to find a new police chief as well as a community development director in recent years.
