Cal Poly’s Collegians Alumni Big Band will celebrate its 47-year reunion with a gig from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Madonna Inn Ballroom in San Luis Obispo.
The all-male ensemble of 20 musicians will play the tunes of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Les Brown and other big bands of the 1940s through 1960s.
Current Cal Poly music majors and winners of the 2013-14 Collegians Jazz Scholarship, Alex Jacobius, trombone, and Troy Hanson, bass, will join the performance.

The alumni band is composed of Cal Poly grads from the 1940s through the early 1960s. The original band was founded in 1937 by Harold P. Davidson, who headed Cal Poly’s music department at the time.
Admission is free. Reservations are required for dinner; limited, non-reserved seating will be available for listeners and dancers on a first-come, first-served basis.
Voluntary contributions are welcome to support the university’s Collegians Jazz Scholarship.
