A shark was spotted just south of the Avila Beach Pier on Sunday, marking the third confirmed shark sighting this month in San Luis Obispo County.
Cal Fire said a fisherman reported seeing a great white shark between 10 and 12 feet long near the pier at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities have since posted notices advising beachgoers of the sighting, but they are not advising people to stay out of the water.
This is the third shark sighting this month off the county's coast. A shark bit a surfboard with a surfer upon it in Oceano on July 5; later the same day, a shark was reported in Pismo Beach. In neither case were authorities positive of the type of shark.
