A tree house-themed play area with natural-looking tree stump and log step climbers, a wood plank ladder, slides, a rope bridge, swings and a small wood-style club house are just a few of the amenities now at Santa Rosa Park in San Luis Obispo.

The city recently completed the new playground area, replacing older equipment that dated to 1995. The project cost $262,000 and was paid for using a combination of grant funds and general fund money.

In addition to equipment replacement, the upgrade improved accessibility by replacing the old sand surfacing with wood fiber surfacing and installing transition ramps to provide access from the adjacent sidewalks to the play area.

The next playground replacement project is planned for Sinsheimer Park, with construction expected to begin in late fall 2015. A community workshop for that project will be June 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the entrance to the baseball stadium.
