Coming to San Miguel: Drum demonstration, advisory council elections and more

Here are a few reminders of upcoming events:

Thursday at 3 p.m. Dean Giles will talk about and demonstrate drums through the ages at the San Miguel Library, 254 13th St., in the first of three programs.

Next week — same time, same place — will feature Aleksandra Wydzga, a research scientist from Cal Poly presenting a program on the fossils and prehistory of San Luis Obispo County.

On Wednesday evening, the San Miguel Advisory Council will hold elections prior to meeting at the Community Building behind the library in the park.

At 6 p.m., meet the candidates for a question-and-answer session. The League of Women Voters will monitor the election, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. These are your representatives to the county Board of Supervisors and the Planning Department.

Sonja Jackson, proprietor of Jackson’s Old & New on 12th Street behind the Coffee Station, is doing some renovations and making room for new merchandise with a sale.

Everything now in the store is 50 percent off until gone. Store hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. She welcomes everyone to come in and help her clear the floor.

Early notice: The San Miguel Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Car Show on the weekend of Aug. 22-23. Friday will be Cruise Night with the show on Saturday. For information, call Mike Sanders at 805-712-9120 or see him at the San Miguel Mercantile on Mission Street.
