Atascadero officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for damaging one of the newly restored fountains at the City Administration Building.
According to the Atascadero public works department, part of a wing of one of the duck figurines in the fountain was snapped off and later discovered inside a nearby landscaped planter.
In a news release, authorities reported that a person playing fetch with a large dog was seen in the area around the time the damage is believed to have occurred. The damage could possibly be from a thrown object or a dog jumping into the fountain to retrieve it.
The fountain and sculptures were made possible as part of the Historic City Hall Project, funded completely through local fundraising efforts and state grant funding.

The duck sculptures are made of reinforced concrete material but are still delicate and not capable of withstanding even small children walking on them.
The city reminds the public that the fountain is off-limits to swimming, wading, or “horseplay.”
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact the Police Department at 461-5051.
