A popular travel website has named San Luis Obispo’s Higuera Street one of “America’s Best Main Streets.”

Fodor’s Travel recognized a total of 15 top thoroughfares, including roads in Ann Arbor, Mich; Key West, Fla.; and Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The website praised San Luis Obispo’s “rich history” and “lively downtown area,” noting its “quaint indoor plazas that border a rippling creek.” It also noted the variety of activities available in the area, including the San Luis Obispo farmers market.

“This designation is a testament to all of the hard work and passion that goes into keeping downtown a vibrant and pleasant place to be for residents and visitors alike,” said Dominic Tartaglia, executive director of the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association.

He also pointed out the region’s natural beauty and walkability.
