The San Luis Obispo County Bomb Task Force investigated a suspicious object found in downtown San Luis Obispo on Tuesday afternoon as people readied to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

A small device resembling a pipe bomb, an object wrapped in black electrical tape with wires, was found on Chorro Street near Pismo Street by a passerby around 3 p.m.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department responded and closed roads one block in each direction but did not order evacuations.

The device was removed using Andros, the Bomb Task Force's robot, put in a containment vessel and hauled off to a secure location.

Sgt. Janice Goodwin said the Police Department had not received any threats or suspicious calls that could be connected to the device prior to it being found.
