Second collection box for old U.S. flags is set up in Paso Robles

The Paso Robles Elks Lodge and local business owners have come together to install a second collection box for American flags in Paso Robles.

Residents are encouraged to bring worn-out American flags to these collection boxes for safe-keeping and harvesting of the stars until the flags are retired appropriately.

Volunteers for the Stars for Our Troops program will cut the stars from the embroidered flags, package them with a message of thanks, and distribute them to soldiers, veterans and their families.

The first permanent metal collection box was installed at the corner of 13th and Paso Robles streets, donated by Howard Wood, exalted ruler of the Paso Robles Elks Lodge, and Karl Williams of Paso Robles Welding and Ironworks, a news release said.

The new box will be placed at the Boy Scout House at 23rd and Oak streets in Paso Robles. It is a donation from Cole McFarland of Chaparral 4-H, and Russ Wilson of Special Service Contractors and Motive Systems.
