Holiday hard hats will be stylish at the 26th Annual Christmas Parade presented by the Los Osos/Baywood Park Chamber of Commerce, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Los Osos Valley Road and South Bay Blvd.
This year’s theme is “Christmas Under Construction” to commemorate the long-awaited and debated sewer project currently in development. Costumed walkers and riders are encouraged to participate.
Immediately following at the South Bay Community Center is the 8th Annual Needs ‘N Wishes Holiday Fundraiser. Los Osans Richard Margetson and Jerri Walsh continue to rally support and donations to support homeless services throughout the county.
This year, proceeds will again benefit the Maxine Lewis Memorial Homeless Center and Transitional Food & Shelter organizations. Their newest beneficiary is the SLO Noor Clinic.

Open Fridays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 5pm, Noor Clinic provides free primary, eye, and specialty care for the uninsured by volunteer physicians, nurses, phlebotomy techs, and clerical staff.
“Dr. Rupert Chowins is a lead person on the clinic’s board of directors,” Walsh said. “He has personally been providing free eye care to the homeless at Maxine and Prado. The group will be offering free dental in the near future.”
Needs ‘N Wishes is a day-long holiday shopping spree with a purpose because at the end of the day 100 percent of the funds collected benefit homeless services. Boutique craft items, baked goods and multiple tables of donated silent auction items and services are offered. Admission is free as are the cookies, hot cocoa, entertainment and Santa visits. New toys can be purchased from Santa’s Toy Store.
“We are excited to have a new Xbox One with a year’s membership included in this year’s Children’s Raffle,” said Walsh. “Many parents bring their children to shop in our discounted toy store and pick out another toy to add to Cal Fire’s toy bins for the Marine’s Toys for Tots.”
“Also new this year,” Walsh continued, “we have a Matching Gift Christmas Tree. Supporters pick a tag with a donation amount hanging on the tree and their donation will be matched.”
She added that people often donate without attending. Checks should be made out to People Helping People with "Needs 'N Wishes" noted. Mail them to P.O. Box 6721, Los Osos, CA, 93412. For information, contact Jerri at 528-5800.
