The event will honor the memory of 19-year-old Christine Allen, an Edna Valley woman who died May 7 in a rockslide accident.
Before her death, Allen had organized the donation of thousands of pounds of meat to the food bank and raised money for the processing of donated animals, event organizer Lenny Jones said in a news release.
Allen’s sisters and family plan to participate in this year’s event, which includes one-mile, 5K and 10K courses on the beach, Jones said.

Last year’s Turkey Trot drew 300 participants, and Jones hopes to attract more this year. Participants can start lining up on the south side of the Pismo Beach pier at 8:30 a.m. Runners start at 9:15 a.m.
Jones asks that participants bring at least $1 to donate to the food bank as an entry fee.
“One dollar enables the food bank to purchase $10 worth of food,” Jones said. “That’s why we’re asking for money instead of food.”
Dogs are allowed on a short leash. Water stations will be positioned along the course. For information, go to www.SouthCountyTurkeyTrot.com.
