The lecture, titled “Saving the Nine Muses” — a reference to a 4th century marble Roman sarcophagus displayed in the Hearst Castle gardens — will take place at the Steynberg Gallery in San Luis Obispo at 6:30 p.m.
It will feature presentations by Zdravko Barov and Constance Faber of the Ethos Art Conservation of Cambria and Cal Poly chemistry professor Dane Jones.
The speakers will share their expertise in supervising the Nine Muses’ restoration, as well as the application of chemical analysis to determine the marble’s origin and the sculpture’s original paint composition, according to a news release.
There will be a $5 cover charge.
The next lecture is scheduled for Dec. 11 at the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum. The topic will be molecular gastronomy.
