Consolidation of the county offices of auditor-controller and treasurer-tax collector will go into effect Aug. 12.
The consolidation was approved by San Luis Obispo County supervisors July 9 and is expected to save the county more than $250,000 per year. Current Auditor-Controller Jim Erb will head the consolidated offices.
“This is good decision for the taxpayers,” Erb said. “While in the short run, consolidation will save over $250,000 per year, I believe that the true value will be much higher over time as we work to better integrate processes and enhance the use of technology and automation while continuing our strong emphasis on customer support.”
The office of Treasurer-Tax Collector was held by Frank Freitas until he retired in October 2012. Since then, the office has been held by Art Bacon and, most recently, Gordon Eiland.
