A crowd of about 75 people cheered the Sunday night return of 13 World War II veterans who spent the weekend touring Washington, D.C., as part of the Honor Flight program.
The veterans and their personal assistants arrived at the airport in San Luis Obispo at just after 10 p.m. and were greeted by family, friends and members of the Welcome Home Military Heroes group.
While in Washington, the group visited a number of landmarks, including the World War II Memorial, the Capitol, Arlington Cemetery, and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, where some of the vets got to see aircraft they flew in during the war.
They also visited several other military memorials, and they received standing ovations from crowds in town for the Cherry Blossom Festival.
